Saif Ali Khan crowned 'Nawab of Pataudi'

Saif Ali Khan crowned Nawab of Pataudi

Forty Days after his father’s demise, Saif Ali Khan has been named as the tenth Nawab of Pataudi.

Even though the Indian Government doesn’t recognize the princely title anymore, a small ceremony was held at Saif Ali Khan’s ancestral palace on October 31st, owing to the sentiments of the villagers.

The 'Pagdi' ceremony was supposed to be a small one with just family and close friends but at the end of the day around 50,000 villagers were gathered to greet their new Nawab.

Saif Ali Khan was overwhelmed by the response he received and vowed to honor his father’s legacy.

"I'm overwhelmed with the kindness and simplicity the village heads have shown me and my family, and the respect to my late father. This is a huge responsibility for me, to take my father's legacy forward in whatever way I can. It is a deeply personal part of my life and I will do my best to honor my father's memory. Princely titles no longer exist, but family values and tradition do. I shall be conscious of this always and do the best I can for Pataudi,” he said.

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was the true last Nawab of Pataudi.
